I was amazed to find (though I wasn’t looking) that Amtrak has a buried web page featuring some special rates. Their site is impossibly hard to navigate (I found virtually no information about Amtrak shipping, which is what I was looking for), but I found a fare from New York to Chicago for $33! No logic.
