It’s nice to have a three day weekend, but Tuesday morning after such a holiday can be disastrous. Take mine for example: while I was lazily wasting the weekend away I failed to notice that water from last week’s storm was busy seeping through the wall and into the SM to SP section of my CD collection. That’s a really good section too, featuring such delights as Elliott Smith and Spiritualized.
Needless to say the water has done it water does – making all the CD booklets wet and shriveling and twisting them into something that remotely resembles the Figure 8 you see pictured here.

Sidewalk Chalk
Yale’s Luis Vuitton sidewalk chalk advertisement has survived three days of rain. That’s some durable chalk. The chalkers where apparently “raising awareness about this issue.” This isn’t the first corporate chalking I’ve heard about. IBM’s “Peace, Love & Linux” campaign in 2001 left long lasting chalk stains around the streets of San Francisco. They paid a fine to the city to clean it up. I’ve also seen innocent children adorning suburban sidewalks and driveways with chalk ads for the 123456789 corporation. Shameless.
Ludacris Cited by Seventh Circuit
In this week’s USA v. Murphy opinion from the Seventh Circuit, the court affirmed a conviction of the trial court but corrected the lower court’s spelling of the word “ho” as used in the phrase “snitch bitch ho”. The first footnote to case reads as follows:
The trial transcript quotes Ms. Hayden as saying Murphy called her a snitch bitch “hoe.” A “hoe,” of course, is a tool used for weeding and gardening. We think the court reporter, unfamiliar with rap music (perhaps thankfully so), misunderstood Hayden’s response. We have taken the liberty of changing “hoe” to “ho,” a staple of rap music vernacular as, for example, when Ludacris raps “You doin’ ho activities with ho tendencies.”
